Each Arlyn Award Jury sets its own unique Criteria of "truly outstanding design in puppet theatre."
To assist them, the following are some general guidelines:

Clarity:             The overall visual impact which includes style, visual aesthetics, clarity, readability, and body
                               language of the figures.
                          The craftsmanship of performance.

Suitability:        The design style as it relates to the character, mood, historical, and geographical qualities
                              of the storyline.
The realisation of the figures as they translate from two dimensional drawings to three
                              dimensional figures.
Are the designs suited to the story, to the type of puppet, to the mood, etc?

Unity:               The overall balance and consistency of the design style and its relationship to
                               three-dimensional terms.

Originality:       The unique imprint the Designer has given to the production.
